The founder

RENATO PEZOA HUERTA

He is a lawyer (LL.B. Hons.) admitted to practice law by the Supreme Court of Justice of Chile.

He is studying a Doctorate in Juridical and Social Sciences at the Universidad de Mendoza, Argentina. He holds an MBA specialising in International Law from the Universidad Nebrija and CEREM IBS, Madrid, Spain. Post graduate in Maritime Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso; and in Maritime Insurance and Port Risks from the Escuela de Seguros de Chile and the Universidad de los Andes. 

International Judge Arbitrator in Maritime Law disputes (CIACBLP) and Member of the Club Español del Arbitraje in the Maritime Law portfolio

Professor of Maritime Law in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in different Universities in Chile and abroad.

Author of more than 30 works, consisting of books, scientific articles and book chapters, all in Maritime Law, highlighting his great work "Fletamentos de Buques", the largest treatise of reference and influence in the maritime history of Latin America on charter of ships (Editorial Hammurabi, year 2023, 700 pages).

It has proven experience in Maritime Law, Insurance, Bankruptcy and Commercial Law in general. The main speciality of its lawyers is focused on:

- Negotiation of contracts of carriage of goods by sea; time, voyage and bareboat charters. Negotiation of shipbuilding contracts. Negotiation of contracts for the sale and purchase of vessels.

- Negotiation of contracts for the carriage of specific cargoes, in containers or in bulk, with emphasis on grain under GAFTA contracts modalities; minerals, fertilisers and other raw materials, mainly fresh cargo; oil, gas; project cargoes.

- Advice and consultancy on purchase and sale of vessels; ship registration and flagging; class certificates and inspections of all types of ships.

- Legal representation in maritime arbitration and maritime insurance matters. Bankruptcy liquidation proceedings; lawsuits for breach of contract.

Additionally, Pezoa & Cía. Abogados has experience in lawsuits related to Marine Pollution by the Normal Operation of Ships, before the different Courts of Appeal of the Republic of Chile.
